Spectrum's First-ever Kadayawan Invasion

Kadayawan Invasion 2014

I am not the party type of person and I rarely go to places or events like this one but I'm glad I made an exemption. I went there with my blogger friends, thanks to Smart Communications and Spectrum PH who had given us VIP passes to the Kadayawan Invasion 2014. At first, I thought that I would be the only Mommy Blogger who would join but I'm happy that there were some who joined, danced and partied with with us.

Kadayawan Invasion 2014

It was my first time to see a huge crowd, jumping and dancing to this new craze; the EDM (Electronic Dance Music). They still continue to dance and party even though its raining. I on the other hand went home before the clock hits 12, cinderella? Hahaha! Nah, I still have  toddler waiting for me at home... ;)

Well, even if I went home earlier than my blogger friends, I still had fun. I met my hubby's cousin, Claire and greeted her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We had a blast, everyone really had fun regardless of the "hipon" issue... Let's not talk about it, better check this video clip that I captured during the Kadayawan Invasion 2014 and see how everyone REALLY had FUN! ;)

Kadayawan Festival Events

The Lumadnong Bantawan features the Maguindanao at Peoples’ Park last August 21, 2008. My best friend Jane and I was able to watch them and it was a great show... Our fellow Davaoenos are really talented... The audience enjoyed watching and applauded them after the show. It was a great experience, it's not everyday that you see them here in the City performing their tribe dance...

On August 23 (Saturday), witness the parade of music and dances with the Indak Indak sa Kadalanan (Street Performance) from 8 AM to 12 NN, from Roxas Avenue, C.M. Recto Ave., San Pedro Street to City Hall Drive, followed by the street dancing showdown of Davao-based groups, 2-4 PM at Rizal Park, and the showdown performance of out-of-town groups, 6-10 PM at Rizal Park.

See the fruits of our harvest and flowers in full bloom in the street pageantry of Pamulak Kadayawan Floral Float Parade on August 24 (Sunday), 8 AM-12 NN along Magsaysay Avenue, C.M. Recto Avenue, Bonifcaio Street, Legaspi Street and San Pedro Street.

Listen and enjoy to the music and dances of the Kalasikas concert simultaneously at Rizal Park and Peoples’ Park from 9 Am to 10 PM. Join in the merriment as Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Globe present the Pahalipay ni Mayor sa Kadayawan featuring Francine Prieto and Spongecola.

Take part in the Kadayawan festival’s daily events: Taste and experience Davao indigenous tribes’ cuisine and delicacies and see their showcase of tribal products in Kaan Mindanaw and Lumadnong Gama at Rizal and OsmeƱa parks from 11 AM to 8 PM. Get discounts and good buys at the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair at SM City Grounds from 8 AM to 10 PM. Party with the Dabawenyos nightly at the Kaan Dawet Street Food and Music Festival from 4 PM top 2 AM along Bolton Street (beside the Sangguniang Panlungsod Building). See the awesome works of Mindanawon visual artists and photojournalists at the Hulagway sa Kaliwatan Exhibits, 9 AM to 6 PM at the Museo Dabawenyo.
Happy Kadayawan Festival!

Musanay Lumadnong Kagikan, Yutang Kabilin Panalipdan! (Flourishing Indigenous Heritage, Protecting Ancestral Nations)

The life and culture of the indigenous peoples have always been linked to the land. Since time immemorial, Davao has been the homeland of the Indigenous Peoples and land has become the core of their existence. If their land is lost, so is their culture and traditions. Thus, there is a need to defend the indigenous peoples’ ancestral lands for them to continually live and practice their way of life- consulting the spirits, working with nature and sharing with others. This is the main reason of celebrating the Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2008.

This year’s celebration has two main components:

Lumadnong Kasaulogan
(Indigenous Peoples Festival) - the core of the Kadayawan Festival showcasing our indigenous peoples’ culture and arts.

Subay sa Lumadnong Kagikan (Contemporary Indigenous-motivated Celebrations) - showcases the impact of the indigenous culture and traditions to contemporary artists and communities.

Our theme for this year is: "Musanay Lumadnong Kagikan, Yutang Kabilin Panalipdan!" (“Flourishing Indigenous Heritage, Protecting Ancestral Nations”)

The official parade route of the 2008 Floral Float Parade is now available online, courtesy of the City Tourism Operations Office and Digilution.
