The Proud Bagoba

Are you proud of your roots? Hhmm... I am! wehehehe... My great grandfather and grandmother is a pure Bagobo. I can understand the Bagogo Language and speak a little, though sometimes I get confused by their meanings hehehe... Just wanted to share lang for those who didn't know yet, I am a proud Bagoba! Nyahahaha...

Others won't believe while the others just agree with what I am saying when I told them na may dugong Bagobo ako... hahaha... Some would ask if I was just kidding or what... well, that's just it... :D

So, Who are the Bagobos?

The Bagobo were the first ethnic group in Mindanao encountered by the Spaniards at the end of the nineteenth century. Its name was derived from the words "bago" meaning "new' and "obo/obbo/uvu" meaning "growth",or "grow" which refer to a recent formation of people along the Davao Gulf coast.

The Bagobo are proud people with proto-Malayan features. They have light brown complexion, brown or brownish black wavy to curly hair, dark and widely set eyes, ridge broad nose and full, rounded lips.

The ancient settlement of the Bagobo is called Sibulan and serves as the center of all the Bagobo settlements when the Spaniards came. A strong social structure has enabled the groups to blend well with the main body politic while retaining their indigenous customs, beliefs and values.

The Bagobos have ornate traditions in weaponry and other metal arts. They are noted for their skill in producing brass articles through the ancient lost-wax process. They also weave abaca cloths of earth tones and make baskets that are trimmed with beads, fibers, and horses hair.

Let Us Help Raise Funds for the Cagayan de Oro Flash Flood Victims

Yesterday it has been raining in Cagayan de Oro for almost 8 hours and some of the places had no electricity for quite some time. Due to the heavy rain there are lots of casualties during the landslide and 9 people are confirmed dead... It was so sad that things had happened in our country... Cagayan is just 6 hours away from Davao City and early this morning at around 3 or 4 a.m. the rain started to pour here and it just stopped at around 2 p.m. today... Imagine that... Hope there will be no flood in or landslides here too...

Anyways, a few good hearted Cagay-anons in Plurk community had been trying to raise funds to help the flood victims there. It was just a small amount but it could help a lot of people who are badly in need right now, especially to the homeless whose houses had been washed away by the flood... Just want to share this to those who wanted to help too... I think a lot have shared a little in the Plurk community and I hope you guys could share your little blessings too... If you had a Paypal account just send your donations to jamgfx[@]gmail.com. Thanks!

Here are a few Photos of the Flood in Cagayan de Oro, courtesy of www.Awatiro.com

My Blogs' Earnings for 2008

I was reading Gumer's (Techno Techniques) previous posts about his and her wife's blog earnings last 2008... It was an inspiring post for newbie bloggers who wanted to make money online too. Like him, I started to monetize my blog just last year around 6 months ago, although I have been blogging for a year already... Like any other blogger out there, I started my blog as my personal diary... and next, you know na... :)

Anyways, back to Gumer's post. As I was reading his post about his earnings, I got curious too on how much I have really earned for the past year out of blogging. I think I only got a hundred bucks for the past two to three months of doing paid post and after that it increased coz I was so determined to gain a hundred or more per month. So I did all the paid post I have won on the bid and those that are offered to me...

I have thought that the total amount of what I earned could just be around $300 already but when I sum it all up, I made $479.62 which is around P22,062.52 if I multiply it to P46... Most of my earnings are from paid post and a few are from the link ads on my blogs... Wow... I just wondered where could've all that money be now? hahahaha... I never had any savings! It could be just a few notch up to reaching the average amount for me to buy a laptop... Geez... I should have save it all... but then again, I have no other source of income and I just rely on my blog earnings and a few sideline jobs offered to me... I don't ask money from my mom or anyone... that's why I am doing this 'part time' (that's what I called and told them about this blogging thingy LOL). Well,I have needs and wants too, well, everyone does... hahaha... I guess I should stop being an impulsive shopper and stop spending too much... Hala, added na yan sa New Year's resolution dapat! Hahahaha...

Anyways, I just hope I won't slack off again this year 2009.. I had lose around $60 or more, worth of opportunities online... Hmm... guess I should be back on track again... What happened to you ba kasi miah.... I have four tasks now and I am so lazy to do even just one of it... Sometimes I just let some of my best buddies do those tasks for me hehehe... I dunno, I just don't have this 'urge' to write anymore, unlike before... hmmm.. need some motivation? I guess so...

Saturday Night Special: Biggest Full Moon of 2009

If skies are clear Saturday, go out at sunset and look for the giant moon rising in the east. It will be the biggest and brightest one of 2009, sure to wow even seasoned observers.

Earth, the moon and the sun are all bound together by gravity, which keeps us going around the sun and keeps the moon going around us as it goes through phases. The moon makes a trip around Earth every 29.5 days.

But the orbit is not a perfect circle. One portion is about 31,000 miles (50,000 km) closer to our planet than the farthest part, so the moon's apparent size in the sky changes. Saturday night (Jan. 10) the moon will be at perigee, the closest point to us on this orbit.

It will appear about 14 percent bigger in our sky and 30 percent brighter than some other full moons during 2009, according to NASA. (A similar setup occurred in December, making that month's full moon the largest of 2008.)

High tides

Tides will be higher, too. Earth's oceans are pulled by the gravity of the moon and the sun. So when the moon is closer, tides are pulled higher. Scientists call these perigean tides, because they occur when the moon is at or near perigee. (The farthest point on the lunar orbit is called apogee.)

This month's full moon is known as the Wolf Moon from Native American folklore. The full moon's of each month are named. January's is also known as the Old Moon and the Snow Moon.

A full moon rises right around sunset, no matter where you are. That's because of the celestial mechanics that produce a full moon: The moon and the sun are on opposite sides of the Earth, so that sunlight hits the full face of the moon and bounces back to our eyes.

At moonrise, the moon will appear even larger than it will later in the night when it's higher in the sky. This is an illusion that scientists can't fully explain. Some think it has to do with our perception of things on the horizon vs. stuff overhead.

Try this trick, though: Using a pencil eraser or similar object held at arm's length, gauge the size of the moon when it's near the horizon and again later when it's higher up and seems smaller. You'll see that when compared to a fixed object, the moon will be the same size in both cases.

More lunacy

If you have other plans for Saturday night, take heart: You can see all this on each night surrounding the full moon, too, because the moon will be nearly full, rising earlier Friday night and later Sunday night.

Interestingly, because of the mechanics of all this, the moon is never truly 100 percent full. For that to happen, all three objects have to be in a perfect line, and when that rare circumstance occurs, there is a total eclipse of the moon.

A departing fact: The moon is moving away as you read this, by about 1.6 inches (4 centimeters) a year. Eventually this drift will force the moon to take 47 days to circle our world.

Google Page Rank Updates

It's been days since Google had updated Page Ranks again and this post is way overdue, hahaha... Anyways a few of my blogs gained one and some dropped and others remain the same. As for this main blog of mine, it's still zero, yeah, I think I am one of those blogs who were penalized by Google for doing paid post, but I have seen numerous of blogs who still had their Page Ranks despite doing paid post on their site... Hmmm... Unlucky for me... MeiYah's World which was unupdated (LOL) still remain zero and didn't gain back it's PR2... MeiYah's PhotoBlog which was in wordpress had dropped it's PR from 4 to 0!!! Waaahhh!!!! Well, I think I know the reason why, hahaha... Well, it's okay, I have already made a new Photo Site which is self-hosted, the PhotoMIAHgraphy which now have a Page Rank of 1. It's my latest site which had been running for nearly two months now... My other self-hosted blog which is Random Thoughts of an insoMIAH also gained a Page Rank of 2 and it's been running online for three months now, well atleast I've got great news huh... :) My sister's blog Abby Travels dropped it's Page Rank of 3 to 2, good thing it didn't dropped to flat zero... My secret online diary too dropped from PR 2 to 1... tsk3... Well, that's how Google ranks our websites/blogs, I just hope next time some of my blogs would gain one... Wehehehe... Good Luck na lang! Need to update my blogs na talaga...

My Astrological and Chinese Zodiac Sign

fun quiz for myspace profile and blog

CHINESE ZODIAC

fun quiz for myspace profile and blog

Contrary to its rather negative reputation in the West, the Pig of Chinese Astrology may be the most generous and honorable Sign of the Zodiac. Pigs are nice to a fault and possess impeccable manners and taste. They have so much of the perfectionist in them that others may be inclined to perceive them as snobs, but this is a misconception. Pigs are simply possessed of a truly luxurious nature, one that delights in finery and riches (in surroundings, food, lovemaking and otherwise). This Sign believes in the best qualities of mankind and certainly doesn't consider itself to be superior. Pigs also care a great deal about friends and family and work hard to keep everyone in their life happy. Helping others is a true pleasure for the Pig, who feels best when everyone else is smiling.

A Pig with no one around to appreciate its giving nature is a sad sight. Pigs are so magnanimous they can appear almost saintly; this can lead some less-than-well-intentioned souls to stomp all over this Sign, and the bad news is, the Pig will take the blows! Pigs make great companions in part because of their refusal to see the more negative or base qualities in a partner, but that rose-colored view can lead to this Sign's allowing itself to be taken advantage of. Contrary to their seemingly benign dispositions, however, Pigs can be quite venomous in response to being crossed by a lover, friend or business partner.

Pigs are highly intelligent creatures, forever studying, playing and probing in their quest for greater knowledge. They can be misinterpreted as being lazy, however, due to their love of reveling in the good stuff; this Sign could happily spend hours on end making love, napping, taking a long bubble bath or dallying over an incredible spread of rich foods. Pigs tend to make wonderful life partners due to their hearts of gold and their love of family. Even so, Pigs can be rather exclusive, choosing to spend time with those who will appreciate them most and ignore the rest of the populace. Pigs would do well to realize that there's more to life than being needed. When they open up their world to a diverse group of people, they will truly bloom.

CHINESE ASTROLOGY ELEMENTS: WATER

Those of you born under the influence of the Chinese Astrology Element of Water act with the assured fluidity of a river, affecting your environment with your strength and quiet charm. Creative and captivating, diplomatic and intuitive, Water individuals are the masters of subtle persuasion. Without even appearing to try, you can gain someone's trust and affection, and once you've got them they'll follow you anywhere. You make everyone feel special, noting and praising each person's unique talents. Your inherent pliability, the fluid calm that makes you so appealing, can also make you sometimes too passive, too willing to be what someone wants you to be. You tend to take the shape of whatever container you're poured into.Rather than letting others dam up your energies, let yourself flow freely!

My Year 2008, The Boar...

Yeah, I am born in the year of the boar...

At the end of January, I resign from my job as a Personnel in Charge. Why? Well, too many reasons actually but here are just a few of those reasons:
  • I am not happy with my job anymore...
  • Tagum City is too far, I miss Davao...
  • I get sick everytime I travel Tagum to Davao and vice versa... (palusot? hahaha...)
On the mid of February I went out of the country, 'twas my first time to travel alone and outside of the country pa... It was a great experience, I get to see my two beautiful nieces, my sister whom I haven't seen for two years, my mom and brother too... Got to spend time with all of them and I got the chance to go to Macau too, thanks to my sister and her husband Kuya Erwin and to my mom, who are all very supportive... :D

I can say that the 1st and 2nd quarter of the year was good for me... Went back to Davao on the 3rd week of May. Got serious into blogging and making money online (see My Blog Earnings). Joined the Davao Bloggers Party last June and was able to meet a few bloggers. The party was intimate but it was fun... Joined the Digital Filipino.com Club Networking Event which was held at the Pantawan Hall, Grand Regal Hotel and was sponosred by PAGCOR. I also joined the 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit which was held at General Santos City. Meet a lot of Mindanao Bloggers, I have chanced upon a few of their blog online... I really had a great time there, I have convinced my close friends to blog and I am happy that they've enjoyed and have fun blogging too while making money online...

Bought my very first domain www.meiyah.info which is already 3 months old now and by the way it just gained a Page Rank of 2 now... Weeee... I am so happy upon knowing that good news... Well, I am happy too that it is now gaining traffics from Search Engines with certain keywords... I will make a different blog post about it and share it to all... My latest site www.photoMIAHgraphy.com has gained a Page Rank of 1 by the way, good news for me, it was just a 2 month old blog...

Anyways, a lot had happened last 2008... Good... Bad... Learned a lot of lesson... Still, I am grateful that despite it all, I have managed to surpass it with God's help...

I hope this year 2009, I will be mature enough in handling things and in the decisions that I would make... Hope this would be a great year for me and my family and my friends as well...

New Year's Resolution

Hmm.... Okay, let's start...

First on my list would be, Not to do that two-timer thingy ever again... Hahaha... Yeah, I've promised Russell and myself not to do that again... that would be the first and the last... Second: Should STOP viewing his profile, how I wish I could do this, I am trying really hard though sometimes I get tempted... What I don't know won't hurt me, yun na lang isipin ko... Third: Stop crying over him... I made it for the past few days but on the first day of this year I haven't stopped myself from doing so... Hmmm.. I Should forget him na talaga... Hay... Fourth: Move on and Live life everyday as if it is my last and make the most out of it... Life is too short to waste it on someone who doesn't even care about me... He's very much happy now, so I should be...

Dili na dapat mag-tinamad mag-write ng posts... dami na expired opportunities.. tsk3... sayang din...
